Teatrul Tineretului Piatra Neamț

Teatrul Tineretului (Youth Theatre) Piatra Neamț is a cultural institution and a landmark of Romania. It is one of the most well-known theatres in the country. Established in 1958, as a section of Teatrul de Stat Bacău (Bacau’s “State Theatre”), Teatrul Tineretului gains its present title in 1967. Right from the start, this institution’s projects created an unique climate, characterized by inventiveness, experiment and daring.

Ever since the beginning , the employees of this institution have tried to make use of the “theatre for youth” concept, according to each and every era’s mentality. In time, Teatrul Tineretului has become a real outpost for the young Romanian theatrical movement.

Today, we’re taking this theatre’s tradition further, by suggesting and organizing cultural projects which regard exclusively the young generation’s orientations in direction, acting or stage design. Additionally, we’re trying to achieve a number of “intra-“ and “inter-“ cultural projects, which would allow us to “open” the dramatic act towards other types of artistic manifestations, but also to achieve a fluid, coherent dialogue with other cultures.

We have projects which involves young persons: ”Teen Fest” Festival (teenagers between 13 and 18 years), Tinerete fara Batranete (Eternal Youth) Festival (children between 3 and 7 years) and the Drama Festival in Piatra Neamt (is the oldest event of this type in Romania).

Drama Festival proposed so far to bring to the audience prominent shows out of the national drama, since 2007 organizers focuses to the young artists at the start of their career. The Festival mainstreamed to the mission of supporting young talents by initiating a new section, ‘I Plead for You(ng)’, alongside A Feast of Drama.

By achieving this section aimed to the young artists, ‘Teatrul Tineretului’ intends to support the debut of the new generation involved in the drama phenomena. The Festival provide the opportunity and the appropriate environment to reveal young artists. Thus a real ‘market’ of young talents will be created. Apart from these, the Festival let the young audience have the chance of attending shows and cultural events in accordance with the preferences of this generation. Alongside the specific drama activities, the audience  have the chance during the Festival to attend other related artistic actions: exhibitions of photography, painting and projected motion pictures (produced by young artists or featuring the concerns and identity of the young generation).

Based on 65 employees (20 of them are actors) Teatrul Tineretului wants to continue its mission:

  • identify, promote and encourage young talents (actors, directors, playwrights, stage designers)
  • support the youth by trying to serve as a launching point for the young, along with their own identities and aspirations
  • encourage creation in contemporary drama
  • provide an opening of the theater to other arts
  • mapping the contemporary drama phenomena in terms of trends created by the young generation
  • set up a ‘market’ for drama young talents
  • attract young audience to the theater
